How do you hold your
steering wheel?
Many of us learned to drive before air bags
became a part of our car's steering wheels.
In these "old days," we were taught to place
our hands on the car's wheel at the 10:00 and
2:00 position. The new, safer rule is that we
should place our hands at the "9 and 3" OR
"8 and 4" positions. The major reason for
the change is because the new position lessen
the chance of a broken nose if the air bag inflates and your arm is
pushed back into your face. William Van Tassel of the AAA Motor
Club also says that at "10 and 2," the driver can only slightly turn
the wheel before his or her arm crosses the center, where the air
bag is. But at "9 and 3" or "8 and 4," the drive has greater turning
range before his or her arm crosses into the danger zone. For more
